Why do I run away from my problems?
The reason that we feel like running away from problems, people, places, and life is that the stress and anxiety of the situation have just gotten too intense. Our minds and our bodies (our hormones) make us think and feel like we need to run for our lives.
How Do You Stop Running Away From Your Problems?
Here are my 4 tips that I have used many times through the years.
1. Recognize your avoidance behaviours.
Oh boy! Is this something that I check myself for?
By recognizing your avoidance behaviours and patterns, it’s easier to put a stop to them and face your problems.
2. Embrace The Suckiness.
Facing a problem will create discomfort, but without that, there is no development and no moving forward. You got this. Trust yourself.
Listen, it will suck in the beginning. Which takes me to my next tip.
3. Start small. You may have many problems that feel insurmountable. Choose 1 or 2 of the more doable ones and attend to those. It will get better, and so will you. It’s okay to struggle x
4. Get support.
It doesn't matter where from; however, choose wisely. Find a trusted friend or family member, or contact a support organization. In my opinion, getting help is necessary. We don’t have to battle through on our own. Especially if we are in full-blown overwhelm.
Being fit, strong, and healthy helps us to cope better when these times come upon us. I have found that these behaviours are the first to be sacrificed under stressful, problematic times.
